Hearers and Doers
24 “Everyone, then, who hears these words of mine and acts on them will be like a wise man
who built his house on rock. 25 The rain fell, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on
that house, but it did not fall because it had been founded on rock. 26 And everyone who hears
these words of mine and does not act on them will be like a foolish man who built his house on
sand. 27 The rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and
it fell—and great was its fall!”
28Now when Jesus had finished saying these words, the crowds were astounded at his teaching,
29
for he taught them as one having authority and not as their scribes.
2nd Scripture Reading – 1 Timothy 4:6-10
A Good Minister of Jesus Christ
6
If you put these instructions before the brothers and sisters, you will be a good servant of
Christ Jesus, nourished on the words of the faith and of the sound teaching that you have
followed. 7 Have nothing to do with profane and foolish tales. Train yourself in godliness, 8
for,
while physical training is of some value, godliness is valuable in every way, holding promise for
both the present life and the life to come. 9 The saying is sure and worthy of full acceptance. 10
For to this end we toil and suffer reproach, because we have our hope set on the living God,
who is the Savior of all people, especially of those who believe.
